Sahyadri Devrai Siddhanerli, Kolhapur
A Sacred Grove Rising in the Heart of Western Maharashtra
In the green folds of Kolhapur, where the Sahyadri's monsoon-fed soil has fed civilizations for centuries, Sahyadri Devrai is planting roots in Siddhanerli. Indigenous species native to the Western Ghats are returning to land that has slowly been losing its forest cover. With every sapling, an old promise between the people and the mountains is being quietly renewed.

The Land and Its Story
Siddhanerli lies in the heart of Kolhapur district, a region blessed with rich red soil, generous monsoons, and an ancient connection to the Sahyadri ranges. Yet decades of expanding farmland, sugarcane monoculture, and disappearing common lands have thinned out the native forest that once breathed alongside every village here.
Trees like jambhul, hirda, behda, kinjal, and ain — once everywhere — now survive only in scattered patches. Sahyadri Devrai chose Siddhanerli to reverse this slow disappearance. The Devrai here is not just an act of conservation; it is an act of return, bringing back the trees that belong to this earth.
