Sahyadri Devrai Palwan Rock Garden

Stone Meets Soil at the Heart of the Beed Devrai

At Palwan in Beed district, where Sahyadri Devrai's flagship plantation has been growing since 2017, a new chapter has quietly taken shape. The Palwan Rock Garden brings stone, soil, and indigenous species together within one of the foundation's largest and most loved Devrais — turning a section of this vast plantation into a living showcase of how the Sahyadris truly look in the wild.

Palwan is a place that has earned its reputation through years of patient work. Across forty hectares of once-barren Marathwada land, more than a lakh indigenous trees have been planted, nurtured, and protected since 2017. The Rock Garden adds a new dimension to this Devrai — a designed landscape where native rocky-terrain species are showcased among carefully arranged stone formations, celebrating a side of the Western Ghats that is rarely seen and even more rarely conserved.

01 — A New Chapter in a Flagship Devrai

Within one of Sahyadri Devrai's largest and oldest plantation sites, the Rock Garden adds a designed, focused landscape. It is the Palwan Devrai's next evolution — from grove to grove plus garden.

02 — Hardy Native Species, Showcased

The garden brings together indigenous species suited to rocky, shallow-soil terrain — the same kind of plants that quietly thrive on the ridges and slopes of the Sahyadris. Stone and soil are designed to host them together.

03 — Marathwada Meets the Western Ghats

Palwan sits in Beed, a Marathwada district shaped by dry, demanding terrain. The Rock Garden bridges this drier landscape with the texture and species of the Western Ghats — proving that ecology travels well when planted with care.

04 — A Place to Walk and Witness

For visitors who come to Palwan to see one of Maharashtra's most ambitious Devrais, the Rock Garden offers a quieter, more intimate space. It is where the scale of the plantation gives way to the detail of individual species and stones.

  • A dedicated rock garden within the Sahyadri Devrai Palwan site, featuring native rocky-terrain species.
  • Conservation of indigenous plants that thrive on shallow soil and stony slopes of the Sahyadris.
  • An expanded experience for visitors and volunteers at one of the foundation's largest Devrais.
  • A long-term ecological asset that protects a less-celebrated part of the Western Ghats ecosystem within Marathwada.
