Sahyadri Devrai — Shirdhon, Satara
A Sacred Grove Returning to the Land of the Sahyadris
In the green folds of Satara, where the Sahyadri ranges shape every horizon and every river, Sahyadri Devrai is planting roots in Shirdhon. Indigenous trees — born of these hills, fed by these monsoons — are being brought back to land that has slowly lost its native cover. With every sapling, a quiet forest is rising in the very heartland of the mountains it is named for.

The Land and Its Story
Shirdhon lies in Satara district, deep within the catchment of the Sahyadri ranges — a landscape of rivers, ridges, and ancient forts. The soil here is rich, the rains generous, and the cultural bond with trees and groves runs centuries deep.
Once, native species like jambhul, hirda, behda, ain, kinjal, and karanj covered these slopes alongside village farmlands. But expanding agriculture, grazing pressure, and shrinking common lands have thinned that forest into memory. Sahyadri Devrai chose Shirdhon because no place is more fitting for a Devrai than the land that gives the Sahyadris their name. The grove here is not new growth — it is a homecoming.
