Sahyadri Devrai Satara Bio-Diversity Park
A Living Library of the Sahyadris, in the Heart of Satara
In the green heartland of Satara, where the Sahyadri ranges fold into rivers, ridges, and ancient forts, Sahyadri Devrai is building something more than a grove. The Satara Bio-Diversity Park is a living library of indigenous species — a place where Maharashtra's native trees, shrubs, and plants are gathered, planted, and preserved in one continuous landscape. It is a Devrai with a deeper purpose.
A bio-diversity park is not measured only by the number of trees in it, but by the number of species it manages to keep alive. Across the Western Ghats, dozens of native plants are quietly disappearing — pushed out by monoculture, urbanisation, and forgotten knowledge. The Satara Bio-Diversity Park exists to bring those species back together in one protected, nurtured space — so that what was almost lost can grow side by side again, and so that future generations can see, study, and learn from a real Sahyadri forest as it was always meant to be.

01 — A Sanctuary of Native Species
The park brings together a wide range of indigenous trees, shrubs, herbs, and medicinal plants of the Western Ghats. Many are rare in the open landscape today and find one of their few safe homes here.
02 — Conservation Beyond Plantation
Unlike a standard plantation, the bio-diversity park is designed for variety — protecting the genetic, ecological, and cultural diversity of the Sahyadris. Each species adds depth to the forest and value to the ecosystem.
03 — A Living Classroom
The park serves as an open-air learning space for students, researchers, volunteers, and visitors. Walking through it is walking through the natural heritage of Maharashtra — a chance to see, name, and understand the trees that built this region.
04 — Heart of the Sahyadris
Satara is the cultural and geographical heart of the Sahyadri range. A bio-diversity park here is more than a project — it is a tribute to the very mountains that gave the foundation its name and its mission.
- A dedicated bio-diversity park in Satara hosting a wide range of indigenous Western Ghats species.
- Conservation of rare, threatened, and culturally significant native plants in one protected space.
- An open educational landscape for students, researchers, and visitors to experience real Sahyadri ecology.
- A long-term ecological asset for Maharashtra, growing in value with every passing season.
