Jintur – Jalna Replantation of trees

Jintur - Jalna Replantation of trees

When development moves forward, mature trees are often the first to be sacrificed. Along the Jintur–Jalna route in Marathwada, dozens of healthy, full-grown trees stood directly in the path of road widening — destined to be cut down in days. Sahyadri Devrai intervened, mobilised the team, and chose the harder, slower, more meaningful path. Instead of letting these trees die, we lifted them, transported them, and gave them a second life.

This project is one of the most demanding forms of conservation we undertake. Each tree carried decades of growth — a complete ecosystem in its branches, its bark, and its deep, stubborn roots. Lifting them with their root ball intact, moving them across districts of Marathwada, and replanting them at safer Devrai sites required machinery, science, and an enormous amount of patience. But every tree saved on this route is a quiet victory — proof that we do not have to choose between roads and roots.

01 — Trees Rescued from Road Widening

Healthy mature trees along the Jintur–Jalna stretch, marked for cutting due to road widening, were carefully uprooted and saved. Decades of growth were preserved instead of lost to the chainsaw.

02 — Replanted at Devrai Sites

Every rescued tree was transported and replanted at active Sahyadri Devrai locations, where it now grows alongside indigenous saplings. The mature trees instantly added canopy, shade, and ecological maturity to younger groves.

03 — Science, Care, and Patience

The work demanded heavy equipment, root ball preservation, careful transport, and weeks of post-transplant monitoring. Modern transplantation science was applied with the same reverence Indian villages have always shown towards their trees.

04 — A Marathwada Lesson in Conservation

In a drought-prone region where every mature tree matters even more, the Jintur–Jalna replantation became a powerful example for the rest of Maharashtra. It showed that development can move forward without leaving the forest behind.

  • Mature trees along the Jintur–Jalna route saved from being cut down for road widening.
  • Each rescued tree carefully uprooted with its root ball and transported to safer ground.
  • Trees replanted at Sahyadri Devrai sites, adding instant canopy and ecological depth.
  • A working model that proves replantation can rescue trees that fresh plantation cannot replace.
