Replantation of 100 Years old Banyan Tree
Replantation of 100 Years old Banyan Tree
Across Maharashtra, thousands of healthy, full-grown trees are cut down every year — for road widening, construction, and so-called "development." Most of them are simply destroyed. But a tree that has stood for twenty, fifty, or a hundred years carries something a sapling cannot — a complete ecosystem in its branches, roots, and shade. Sahyadri Devrai's Replantation initiative exists to save those trees instead of losing them.
Through careful science, heavy machinery, and deep patience, full-grown trees are uprooted with their root ball intact, transported to safer ground, and replanted with the same care that originally grew them. It is one of the most demanding forms of conservation — and one of the most rewarding. Every replanted tree is decades of life rescued from the chainsaw, given a second home where it can keep breathing, sheltering, and giving for generations to come.

01 — Saving Mature Trees
Full-grown trees that would otherwise be cut down are carefully uprooted and replanted at safer Devrai sites. Decades of growth, shade, and ecosystem are preserved in a single act.
02 — Science Meets Tradition
Replantation is done using modern tree-shifting techniques, root ball preservation, and post-transplant care. Scientific precision meets the age-old reverence Indian villages have always shown towards their trees.
03 — A Second Home in the Devrai
Replanted trees find a permanent home in our Devrai sites, where they continue to grow alongside indigenous saplings. The mature tree becomes an instant canopy, accelerating the entire grove's revival.
04 — Conservation Beyond Plantation
Planting a new sapling is important — but saving an existing tree is irreplaceable. Replantation reminds us that conservation is not only about growing forests, but also about refusing to destroy the ones we already have.
- Mature trees rescued from cutting and given a second life at Devrai sites.
- Decades of canopy, biodiversity, and shade preserved instead of lost.
- Modern transplant techniques applied with traditional ecological care.
- A living example that development and conservation can walk together.
